THE LARK ASCENDING is a 15-year-old registered American Quarter Horse, half brother to LARKS TRUST FUND. This beautiful bay gelding, known affectionately as "Larkie" by his owners, Janet Reid of Hesperia, MI, and Ethel Strach of Muskegon, MI, has done all there is to do in quarter horse world.

The sisters purchased Larkie as a two-year-old at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress and put him into training with , well-known quarter horse trainer Lynn Salvatore Palm. His first year brought wins at the three most prestigious quarter horse shows in the United States: The Gold Coast; The Gulf Coast; and within a year of his purchase, The Quarter Horse Congress! He qualified in seven events at the 1991 AQHA World Show: Green Working Hunter; Hunter Under Saddle; Pleasure Driving; Hunter Hack; Trail; Western Riding; and Jr. Working Hunter. In 1991 he earned top honors: AQHA Superhorse! This title is equivalent to MVP in sports. In 1992, Larkie returned to the world show, and won the World Championship in Working Hunter.
Larkie has continued to show and win through the years, training since 1998 with Mari Monda Zdunic. He excelled and was Reserve Champion at AHSA shows before moving on to dressage work, which resulted in the All-Breeds Award in 1997. He was also presented the Best of Americas Horse Award.

Having knocked the socks off every judge in the country, Larkie came home for a rest at JR Lazy Day in 1998. But he was so restless within three months that Janet and Ethel grew concerned. So they hired Mari, who quickly realized Larkie's potential in dressage, and the pair went to work.

In 1999, he earned the 4th Level Freestyle Championship for District II, placing 7th in the nation! In 2000, he earned the prestigious International Prix St. George, and in May, 2003, became the only AQHA Superhorse in the world to also win the coveted Grand Prix de Dressage! Larkie continues to compete and win in competitions around the country.
Happy as, well, a lark, The Lark Ascending continues to compete and win in competitions around the country.

Whether he's competing, training, or exhibiting, Larky gets plenty of attention. He has been the subject of major spreads in equine magazines and metropolitan newspapers, and in July, 2003, he became a collectible.

Mari, Ethel, and Janet, seated in the adjacent photo, are all smiles as they sign Larkie models during BreyerFest 2003,   where their champion was immortalized as a rare collectible Breyer Model. ...more about THE LARK ASCENDING
